What Is Vaginal Steaming? A Gentle Beginner's Guide
June 12, 2026
If you've found your way here, you're probably curious — and maybe a little unsure. That's exactly the right way to begin. Vaginal steaming, also called a yoni steam or V-steam, is one of the oldest and gentlest self-care rituals there is, and it's far simpler than it sounds. Let's walk through it together, plainly and honestly.
The simplest possible explanation
You steep some herbs in a pot of hot water — in our case, a beautiful hand-formed copper pot — let it cool to a soft, pleasant warmth, sit over it on an open steam seat, wrap a blanket around your legs, and relax for fifteen minutes or so while the warm, fragrant steam rises. That's it. That's the whole ritual.
Where the tradition comes from
Steaming isn't a modern invention. Versions of it appear in traditional women's customs across the world — in Korea (where it's sometimes called chai-yok), in Central America (bajos), in parts of West and North Africa, and in Indonesia. For generations it has been passed mostly between women as a warming moment of rest, especially around the rhythms of the month and after childbirth. We offer it in that same spirit: as a ritual of warmth and rest, not a medical cure.
What it actually feels like
Most people describe steaming as deeply relaxing — warm, grounding, and quiet. It's a rare excuse to sit still, breathe, and do nothing for a little while. The herbs smell lovely, the copper holds the warmth, and the whole thing has the feel of a small, private spa moment at home.
An honest word on the claims
You'll find big promises about steaming all over the internet. We'd rather be straight with you: vaginal steaming is a traditional wellness and relaxation practice, and it has not been proven to treat or cure any medical condition. We don't make health claims, and we'd gently steer you away from anyone who does. Enjoy it for what it genuinely is — a soothing, time-honored ritual.
How to start safely
Two rules matter most. First, the steam must be warm, never hot — always test it with your hand first. Second, steaming isn't for everyone: skip it if you're pregnant, have an IUD, or have an active infection. Read our full Safety & Comfort guide before your first session, and you'll be set.
